Art of Science: 2023 Judges Announced

College of Nursing Researcher Serves as Exhibition Juror

Marlene Brennen, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing in the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, is a first-time judge for the fifth annual Art of Science contest hosted by the FAU Division of Research.

Brennen has more than 40 years of experience in nursing and has been a registered nurse in the state of Florida since 1982. She has experience in hospital pediatric units and critical care as well as primary care and women’s health as a nurse practitioner. In August 2023, she earned her doctorate in nursing from FAU.

Throughout her career, she earned several awards, including the 2017 Florida Nurses Association Special Recognition Award, both the 2011 and 2010 Palm Healthcare Foundation Scholarship Award, and the 1993 Who's Who in American Nursing.

Brennen is dedicated to understanding the health of minorities and underserved communities. She is a current member of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics and the Southern Nursing Research Society where she serves on the committee for the Minority Health Research Interested Group. Her most recent publication, under review, examines the effect of a lifestyle management program on the cardiovascular risk factors of a group of African American women.

“I am interested in being a judge because I love photography and art. I like photographing nature and I love impressionist art,” Brennen said.
